We are taking various educational apps around the track to find out what’s under the hood! We’ll tell you if it’s worth your time, if what we find is any good. If it happens to be free, doesn’t mean download you should. As we tie up our shoelaces, we will put it through the paces. What follows is our verdict on what the case is, so stay tuned you should!

Overview: Leafsnap is the first in a series of electronic field guides being developed by researchers from Columbia University, the University of Maryland, and the Smithsonian Institution. This free mobile app uses visual recognition software to help identify tree species from photographs of their leaves. Leafsnap contains beautiful high-resolution images of leaves, flowers, fruit, petiole, seeds, and bark.

Pros:

·      Built-in visual recognition software to identify tree species using your devices camera

·      Beautiful High-resolution images

·      Excellent Design and Navigation

Cons:

·      Lacks refinement

·      Temperamental visual recognition feature

Conclusion: This is a great idea for an app but it has yet to execute that idea into a trouble free user experience. Still although temperamental this app has some great features that hopefully with some updates will be refined for great user enjoyment.
