Overview: It has been well reported in that last few weeks that Microsoft would release its suite of apps for the iPad. Now they are all available to the masses. Some critiques are hailing them as the final key the iPad needed to be considered a true content creation device, which according the some drives the final death nail in Microsoft’s own tablet, the Surface. Does that mean they are absolutely perfect? Well we shall take a look at the Pros & Cons of each starting with Microsoft Word for iPad.

The first thing you need to know is Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel apps require an Office 365 subscription of $99.99 annually. Microsoft says this gives you always up to date versions of Office for up to 5 PCs or Macs and 5 mobile devices, also an additional 20 GB of OneDrive cloud storage, and Skype world minutes (where available). Anyone who is familiar with Word will appreciate how Microsoft interpreted the features and design many have grown to know and love on their desktops, which they will love now on their iPads.

Pros:

·      When you edit a document, your content and formatting are maintained across all your devices

·      Track changes, add comments and work simultaneously with others on the same document

·      A familiar Microsoft Word experience

Cons:

·      For many the biggest Con is the fixed $99.99 subscription they are simply not willing to pay especially if they only want to use Word

·      Doesn’t play well with other iOS apps such as Dropbox and Google Drive. Also, there is no print support

·      Missing text symbols, degree symbols, equations etc

Conclusion: Those who haven’t been put off by the $99.99 annual subscription consider it a good start for an app that would be perfect—with a few missing features and refinements added.
