Eduporium’s co-founder, president, and CEO, Richard Fredkin, never really had what many tech executives would consider as a traditional start in the industry. That’s fine with him, however, since he’s found himself in a place that not too many other Black men have found themselves: in the leading role at a technology company. Eduporium, a STEM education reseller and start-up in Newton, MA, has received capital from The Boston Foundation. Since applying for the funding about 18 months ago, the final pieces have been put in place to provide the company with additional capital after working with two advisers for a year-long period as part of the Business Equity Initiative.
For Rick, participating in something of so much significance provided a great teaching opportunity for him and a great learning opportunity for his two young children. Shortly after the march, Rick spoke with a reporter from the Boston Business Journal and they published the dialogue of the interview earlier this week.
Writers from the educational publication, EdTech Digest, announced last week the finalists and winners for all sorts of various categories in EdTech excellence. Eduporium was selected as one of five finalists in the exciting Maker/DIY Tools Solution category, underscoring their commitment to providing K-12 educators with hands-on STEAM solutions.
It marked the third straight year we attended the AESA and NAMTC Conferences, which are always scheduled side by side, but more importantly, it was memorable because our own Irina Tuule was presented with the NAMTC Partner in Excellence Award during the event—an honor we are all very excited about and grateful for.
Boston’s Museum of Science is located right across the Charles River from us. Since they’re all so focused on science, teaching, and STEM education in particular, we have always been big fans of their work, and our CEO and President, Rick Fredkin, in particular has always found himself intrigued by these experts.
