Specs

In the kit, you’ll find a custom Raspberry Pi 3 Board, the 10.1” HD touchscreen, a wireless keyboard and mouse, a 16GB SD card, HDMI and power cables, the custom case, a stand, battery, DIY speaker, sound sensor, three USB ports, an illustrated storybook, and stickers. The building process is simple and it is accompanied by an easy-to-use instruction story booklet that requires no tools or experience with computers to use. It is powered by the Raspberry Pi 3 with a 1.2 GHz quad core processor, 1Gb of RAM, and a 16Gb micro SD card and outfitted with USB ports and a HDMI port.

The Computer Kit Touch is sound enabled and has a microphone, but it does not have a camera. It also runs Kano OS 4.0, a Linux-based system. The tablet is powered by a rechargeable battery with a playtime of three hours and is controlled via a wireless keyboard with a playtime of 40 hours. This portability allows students to use it anywhere as it is Wi-Fi- and Bluetooth-enabled, so they’re able to browse the Internet and watch videos on YouTube. However, comprehensive parental controls allow teachers and parents to restrict Internet browsing if they wish. Note—the Computer Kit Touch does not need to be connected to the Internet to function!

Apps

With so many pre-installed apps and thousands more available for download free of charge, there are hundreds of hours of content included in building with Kano. Some popular apps to download are Scratch, Paint, Minecraft, Code Academy, and Google Song Maker. Kano has also developed some of their own educational apps, like Make Art, Make Light, and Kano Code for students to get started.
