Each kit now has two expansion packs that provide students and teachers with additional content, projects, and Bits to extend STEAM learning! Covering four specific areas (science, math, technology, and computer science), these kits help ensure students grasp key concepts through scaffolded and engaging activities.
Each of the four expansion packs come with their own sets of additional littleBits modules and accessories. You can view what comes in each pack by clicking on each individual product page. In general, the expansion packs are suited for students in grades K-8 and provide you with at least nine new Bits and four accessories, including mounting boards, wheels, batteries, and cables. When purchasing these add-ons, educators also gain access to a specific amount of instructional content and their own littleBits lesson plans to use—all of which align to the latest educational standards!
STEAM Set Expansion: Science
Cover Life and Earth Science in a more engaging way with this expansion pack for the STEAM Student Set. Lessons are geared towards students in grades 3-5 and this expansion pack includes seven new Bits and 22 accessories! It also comes with 12 hours of instructional content on Earth and Life Science that you can experience in six different lessons. And, the Bits in this kit include an accelerometer, sound trigger, threshold, Makey Makey, wire, long LED, and a bargraph.
STEAM Set Expansion: Math
The Math Expansion kit includes 12 hours of instruction and six new lessons for students. They'll use the 11 new Bits and four accessories to explore a deeper dive into geometry, operations, measurement, data, and more! Among the guided inventions that focus on math concepts are the opportunities to build a cipher machine or to decode secret messages by constructing a lock-out safe. The Bits in this kit are a button, slide dimmer, wire, split, OR, XOR, two latches, and two AND’s, making it more enjoyable for students to invent, remix, and perfect their circuits.
Code Kit Expansion: Technology
With this pack, you also get 12 hours of instructional computer science content as well as 13 new Bits and four accessories. It also includes CSTA-aligned lesson plans and customizable tools for teaching programming and computational thinking. This expansion pack is designed to supplement the tech knowledge of students in grades 6-8 specifically and can facilitate learning for up to three students per kit. With the included battery, proximity sensor, light sensor, three wires, split, long LED, number, buzzer, two DC motor, and bargraph Bits, students can explore the computational thinking concepts that are involved in both transportation and communication.
Code Kit Expansion: Computer Science
Finally, the Computer Science expansion pack provides greater guidance in simple invention and interactive coding. Its 12 hours of content, nine new Bits, and 15 additional accessories help kids bolster their confidence and invention skills! It’s geared towards students in grades 3-5 and allows them to simultaneously apply the coding and engineering skills they’ve worked on developing. It includes a proximity sensor, accelerometer, light sensor, random, wire, fork, and number Bit as well as two long LED Bits for students to complete CSTA-aligned projects and boost their coding knowledge!
