Lori wants to give her unique children an opportunity to partake in student-centered, accessible, and collaborative learning opportunities, which mesh perfectly with maker education. In fact, she’s even thinking about modeling this space after a college library or maker studio to really help create much more of a real-world feel for all of her students.
The newest MakerBot 3D printer, the MakerBot METHOD, is a powerful STEAM tool that students can use to create 3D objects, but pairing it with the MakerBot Cloud software makes it much more valuable. Using MakerBot CloudPrint, students can collaborate and 3D print objects from anywhere, including their homes needing only an Internet connection.
Among the STEAM kits that are part of the sale are the Ozobot Evo 18-Bot Classroom Pack, the Electro Dough Education Kit, and four of the in-depth 3Doodler classroom kits. The Whybricks kit is very affordable and designed for children as young as eight years old. It ships in an organized box with 2,100 pieces—enough for kids to divide up among as many as 20 of them. The system is built on the premise of using hands-on building blocks to help students develop and it includes both in-depth project guides and teacher materials.
Trying to look on the bright side, we’ve joined the optimistic crowd in questioning whether this unprecedented period provided educators, administrators, and learning designers with lessons on educational trends and regularities. We have awarded our educational technology grant for the month of April to Creighton Helms of the Gervais School District. Creighton serves as the principal of the Gervais Elementary School in Gervais, OR and has really worked to create relevant STEAM learning opportunities for the students he supports.
We’ve awarded our EdTech grant for March to Andrew Nikola from the Wappingers Central School District in New York! Andrew works with students throughout K-12 and serves as one of the district’s innovation leaders.
