Cubelets are magnetic, electronic building blocks from Modular Robotics that snap together and allow students to engineer robots.

1. Cubelets kits now feature newly updated storage bins.
2. The bins are color-coded, durable, and perfect for classroom organization.
3. Both the Creative Constructors and Creative Constructors PLUS packs have been restructured.
4. They now support students with the same amount of cubes.
5. The renamed and expanded Cubelets curriculum now serves students across all PK-12 grade levels
6. Functions of each Cubelets block are still indicated by its color.

Modular Robotics’ Cubelets are a classroom and makerspace favorite thanks to their low entry point and high ceiling. Students are initially attracted to the block shape as well as the easy time they have with connecting the blocks together and remain engaged thanks to the progression of programming options Cubelets provides. A few updates have been rolled out recently and we’d like to highlight them for Cubelets users and any educator who might be interested in giving them a try!

Cubelets come in a variety of classroom packs suitable for teaching engineering, coding, and problem solving in a wide range of grade levels. They come with the cubes, Bluetooth Hats for programming, Brick Adapters for adding LEGOs and other building blocks, 5-port chargers and charging cables, and storage tubs. These storage tubs are brand new for the Motivated Makers, Creative Constructors, Creative Constructors PLUS, and Intrepid Inventors Educator Packs.

The new tubs are extremely durable, which makes them perfect for storage and transport between both classrooms and schools if being shared across the district. They’re color-coded by education pack and help with organizing the cubes and materials in a logical way. They can hold up to 80 cubes, including those found in the Motivated Makers, Creative Constructors, and Creative Constructors PLUS packs all in a single tub, while the cubes from the Intrepid Inventors Pack fit neatly in two storage tubs. These tubs are 7 x 12.5 x 6 inches.

In addition to the new storage bins, the selection of cubes included in some of the packs have changed. Specifically, more higher-level THNK cubes have been added to the Creative Constructors and Creative Constructors PLUS packs. The purpose is to support all student groups with the same amount of cubes and eliminate the need for sharing of these specific cubes across groups. This particularly helps when educators are using Cubelets in a traditional classroom environment.

What may be the most significant update to the Cubelets kits, however, is in the lesson plan bundles! Modular Robotics has developed and expanded their supportive educational materials to serve students in all PK-12 grade levels. The lesson books are separated into PK-K, 1-3, 4-6, and 7-12 bundles and they also put together a PK-12 bundle that includes all lesson books, which is ideal for school- or district-wide purchases that involve students from multiple grades learning with Cubelets.

Each bundle includes a lesson book, activity cards, flashlights, magnets and a poster and each lesson book includes grade-specific, standards-aligned lessons, best practices, and class management tips. This curriculum very much supports educators with the implementation of Cubelets in the classroom and we highly recommend it for teachers currently using Cubelets or those considering it as a new tool for their space!
